BRAM, France—Bio Serae Laboratories recently invested in a human clinical study to confirm the weight-management potential of Cacti-Nea™, developed from a prickly pear cactus fruit (Opuntia ficus indica). The 28 days clinical study was conducted on women with normal BMI, aged 40 to 50, placebo-controlled, in a parallel double blind format, monocentric and randomized, with 2 g/d of Cacti-Nea.

Contrary to the volunteers from the placebo group, who mainly lost body lean mass and gained fat mass, the volunteers from the Cacti-Nea group essentially lost fat mass (74 percent of the weight loss observed is due to fat loss). In the treatment group, up to 1.3 kg fat loss was observed. This preliminary result suggests Cacti-Nea could offer a natural detox solution to manage body composition and to reduce body fat—which is the main goal of women who want to control their weight.

The first results of the clinical study showed a decrease in hip circumference: up to 2 percent of reduction was observed in the Cacti-Nea group, which represents up to 1.9 cm reduction. No side effects were observed and what’s more, contrary to a drawback generally found for diuretic substances, Cacti-Nea tends to preserve a healthy blood pressure.
